EEZ Studio support policy announcement

Mar 28, 2025

Dear all, another EEZ Studio version has been published (v0.23). We believe that it will be useful to all and specially to people whose issues on Github have been fixed.

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you about something that has been long overdue. Namely, as we believe most of you know, the development of EEZ Studio in the last few years has been possible primarily thanks to the funding from NLnet, for which we are immensely grateful. That stopped last summer and, regardless, we tried to continue development as best we could with our own funds.

We are no less grateful for every other donation, no matter how modest: it is a wonderful gesture that has kept us enthusiastic all this time.

Since the funding has stopped, we have no choice but to do what has long been customary in open source projects: to offer premium technical support as a way to secure funding, which we have recently offered (see Support plans section).

This means that starting from this milestone, all your questions, requests for new features and bug reports will no longer be processed as before (if anyone believed that it was inadequate in anyway, we believe that they have already gone to seek better luck elsewhere). So, just like in the case of many other open source projects, you can continue to ask for assistance from community members on Discord, but recently also on the Discussions section on GitHub. Therefore, please set your expectations accordingly.

Of course, your pull requests are welcome and will be carefully reviewed and possibly accepted. You are also free to create new issues on Github. The development of EEZ Studio will not stop, however, priority will be given to features and bugs that we need to better support existing and new users of our professional services. Some of such tasks will be publicly published in our Tasklist.

All users of one of the offered support plans will be able to directly create new tasks in the Tasklist and upvote some of the existing ones, thus raising their priority (the right to upvote is obtained even with a small donation without paying support). We also believe that you have had the opportunity to see that some tasks have assigned (development) Effort. Each such task represents a micro crowdfunding campaign and everyone who believes that such a task would be useful to them is invited. Work on each such task will begin within a week once the required amount has been collected. The first such task has just been fully funded.

The Tasklist will grow over time, so we suggest that you take a look from time to time to see if there is anything interesting for you.

We thank everyone once again for their attention, trust, and time, and we look forward to further successful cooperation that will make EEZ Studio even better and more useful.

You can follow our further activities on Discord, X (Twitter), GitHub, and Mastodon.
